On 16.10.2023, Panchayat of Calangute passed orders on a complaint filed by the Goa Foundation against illegal constructions raised by Amara by the Sea (Calangute) and Lloyd St Jude Joachim Fernandes in the 200 metre no-development zone of the CRZ of Calangute village. The order requires demolition of 8 cottages, swimming pool, reception block with security cabin, cement flooring, compound wall and sewage holding tank mentioned in its site inspection report.
Earlier, during an inspection conducted by the GCZMA on 03.03.23, the Goa Foundation had established that 8 concrete structures with concrete foundation have been put up at the site, each with around 3-4 rooms, along with a swimming pool, S.T.P. and other structures. GCZMA’s NOC was only for temporary wooden cottages.
The Goa State Pollution Control Board has already rejected the application of Amari by the Sea for consent under the Air and Water Act. Earlier, all occupation of the premises was suspended after a detailed order of the Bombay High Court (PIL WP No.7/2023).
